Julianne began teaching at Sheridan College in 2013 as a part-time instructor in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. In 2017, she joined the Public Safety team in the Faculty of Applied Health and Community Studies in a full-time capacity. In this role, she teaches a variety of social science courses in the Honours Bachelor of Community Safety degree program and across diploma programs, including Diversity, Values and Ethics, The Sociology of Community, Introduction to Criminology, Making Others: The Sociology of Deviance, Community Engagement and Social Justice, and The Construction of Truth. Most recently (2021-2024), she was a co-investigator on the CCSIF-funded project, The Community Ideas Factory: The Life Skills Project, led by Dr. Sara Cumming. Julianne holds an Honours B.A (double major) in Sociology and Law and Society, an M.A. in Socio-Legal Studies and a PhD in Sociology from York University. 

Teaching Interests

  • Teaching Interests: the social construction of reality and social problems, representation, identity and difference, social justice and anti-oppression, knowledge production and mobilization, and crime, deviance, and criminalization.
