Types of awards

Scholarships

Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement in addition to other established criteria.

Bursaries

Bursaries are awarded to students who demonstrate financial need in addition to other established criteria.

Academic awards

Sheridan presents hundreds of academic awards to students demonstrating outstanding academic achievement. Students are typically presented their awards annually at an awards ceremony or grad show. Students are notified by their faculty if they've been chosen as the recipient of an academic award.

Featured scholarships, bursaries and awards:

International Entrance Scholarship

International students beginning their full-time postsecondary studies at Sheridan may receive an International Entrance Scholarship ranging from $1,000–3,000.

Sheridan Global Advantage Award

International students who accept an offer and apply for a study permit to a full-time program at Sheridan College before June 15, 2025 may receive a $2,000 Sheridan Global Advantage Award.

Sheridan Degree Entrance Scholarship

Sheridan is pleased to provide a Degree Entrance Scholarship to select applicants for many of our degree programs. These scholarships are for Canadian or permanent residents only who meet specific eligibility criteria.

Sheridan Tuition Bursary

New and returning full-time domestic students may be eligible to receive a Sheridan Tuition Bursary of up to $2,000 to help with paying tuition and fees. This bursary is automatically awarded to eligible students (no separate application is required).

How to apply for scholarships, bursaries and awards

The deadline to submit a General Awards Application and apply for most opportunities for the Spring 2025 semester is June 1, 2025.

Eligibility criteria

Scholarships, bursaries and awards opportunities are available to:

  • Students with a *full-time course load, unless the award is specific to Continuing and Professional Studies students or otherwise noted on the opportunity.
  • Students in programs delivered only at Sheridan. Students enrolled in joint programs (programs offered in partnership with another institution) are not eligible for these awards unless the award specifies that joint programs will be considered.

*Students are considered to have a full-time course load if they are enrolled in at least 70% of the credits or 66â…”% of the courses required for the program of instruction in a given term or reporting period.

Recipient selection

Sheridan's Financial Aid & Awards Office reviews the awards applications that are submitted and carefully chooses award recipients.

Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) and financial aid

Your OSAP entitlement may be affected if you receive a significant amount of financial assistance. When you receive a scholarship or bursary, you should update your OSAP information. Sheridan reports most awards directly to OSAP. The Financial Aid and Awards Office will contact you by email if you receive an award from our office that requires you to update the information on your OSAP application.

Financial aid and tax

Scholarships, bursaries and awards are considered part of your taxable income. Sheridan issues T4A slips to all recipients in late winter/early spring of the year following the year in which the scholarships, bursaries and awards were issued.

HigherEdPoints.com

Sheridan College participates in the HigherEdPoints.com program. With this partnership, students (or their parents or grandparents) can convert Aeroplan® Miles and/or TD Points into funds to help cover fees as well as pay off Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) loans.
