Important Information Regarding Weather-Related Closures
Sheridan’s administration references various criteria when making decisions regarding inclement weather. These include current and forecasted weather conditions, weather alerts, current and anticipated road conditions, police travel advisories, transit cancellations and delays, campus conditions and other closures or cancellations in the area.
Should the careful assessment of the above criteria result in the decision for Sheridan campuses to close and classes to be cancelled, you will be notified on the following communication channels:
- The sheridancollege.ca homepage (look for the red bar along the top of the page)
- Sheridan’s Twitter page
- Sheridan’s Facebook page
- Your Sheridan email account
- The Sheridan Alert! app (download the app and get notifications directly to your phone)
- Sheridan’s switchboard message (905-845-9430)
When possible, Sheridan strives to decide about a weather-related closure by 6:30 a.m. at the latest for daytime classes and by 3 p.m. for evening classes. In the event severe weather develops during the day, conditions will be monitored, and you will be notified as quickly as possible should a closure be necessary. It may take some time to roll out communications to all the channels listed above.
In the event of a weather-related closure, employees, and students who do not live in Residence, are asked to leave or remain off-campus. Security will remain on site.
Please note: Scheduled, in-person classes will be cancelled. Virtual classes will continue as scheduled, as will remote work. Employees who were scheduled to work on campus as part of a hybrid work arrangement will be asked to work remotely instead.
The safety of Sheridan’s students, employees and visitors to campus is always a top priority. We acknowledge that weather conditions may vary depending on our campus locations and the location from which you are traveling. Please exercise judgment based on your individual circumstances with respect to safe travel during inclement weather.
