Jigisha Patel
Biography
Jigisha earned her Bachelor of Computer Applications degree and Master of Computer Applications degree from Sardar Patel University, India. In 2012, she began research work and earned (Ph.D.) Doctor of Computer Science in 2016. Her research work focused on Natural Language Processing and speech recognition for the Gujarati language.
Jigisha has been working in Computer Science education for more than 14 years in various graduate and postgraduate courses. Before joining Sheridan in 2017, she worked as an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science department at Sardar Patel University, India. Jigisha joined Sheridan in 2017 as a part-time professor, and in 2018 became a full-time professor in the Mobile Computing degree program.
At Sheridan, Jigisha teaches programming, web, and mobile app development courses in various degree and diploma programs. She helps students in their capstone courses for Mobile Computing degree programs. Her primary teaching interests are programming principles, mobile computing, object-oriented programming, web development, and native mobile application development.
Contributions to research
Jigisha has been involved in research activities at the Centre for Applied AI (formerly known as the Centre for Mobile Innovation) since 2021. She is a Principal Investigator for a project in which Sheridan’s Centre for Applied AI collaboratively works with RBC to create a recommender system and a smartphone app that will provide relevant real-time content based on real-time assessments from the recommender system. The project focuses on data preprocessing, using AI, creating multiple Machine Learning models, and comparing the models for optimum results and accurate predictions.
