Sheridan's electrical engineering degree is the first Ontario college program of its kind to receive accreditation from the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB). Accreditation by the CEAB ensures that graduates have the academic qualifications necessary for licensure as professional engineers (P.Eng.) in Canada.
Theory is important, but so is the opportunity to put it into practice. Because our electrical engineering degree is one of the few in Canada that embrace the CDIO Initiative (Conceive, Design, Implement and Operate), you’ll spend up to 50% of your class time working in labs. By using the systems you build, you'll learn what it takes to imagine and develop user-friendly solutions.
In the third and fourth years of your electrical engineering courses, you'll have the opportunity to specialize in one of two technical streams — energy or mechatronics. Our energy stream prepares you for work in the electrical utility sector. In the mechatronics stream, you'll gain the skills necessary to work in the fields of automation and instrumentation.
Build working relationships with potential employers while you're still in school! Our program features a four-month electrical engineering internship after your second year, plus the option for a co-op work term of up to 16 months following your third year. These experiences, combined with cross-disciplinary projects in each year of your studies, ready you to work as soon as you graduate.
As one of our newest programs, Sheridan's electrical engineering degree features cutting-edge curriculum and the latest technology. You'll work with expert professors who hold PhDs, have P.Eng (professional engineering) designation and have years of industry experience.
Sheridan has been granted a consent by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities to offer this degree for a seven-year term starting April 29, 2019 and subject to renewal thereafter. Application to the Ministry for renewal of the consent is a prescribed and cyclical requirement for degree programs at all Ontario colleges. Sheridan will ensure that all students admitted to the Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Engineering) program during the period of consent will have the opportunity to complete the program within a reasonable time frame. Credentials earned during the period of consent remain valid, even if Ministry consent to offer the program is withdrawn in the future. Prospective students are responsible for satisfying themselves that the program and the degree will be appropriate to their needs (e.g. acceptable to potential employers, professional licensing bodies, or other educational institutions).

If you've graduated from a three-year Electronics Engineering Technology or Computer Engineering Technology advanced diploma program, you may be eligible to complete Sheridan's Honours Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Engineering) degree through Degree Completion.
Degree Completion allows you to apply previously earned credits towards your Sheridan degree, allowing you to complete your degree and advance your career sooner.
As a Degree Completion student, you must first complete reach-back courses through a bridging program, which runs from September to August each year.
Once you've successfully completed all required reach-back semester courses, you'll progress into Year 3 (Semester 5) of the Honours Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Engineering) degree program.
Applications from graduates of closely related programs at other Ontario colleges will be assessed on a case-by-case basis for credit transfer.
Successful applicants will meet with the program coordinator/academic adviser to develop an individualized study plan for the reach-back semesters.
The reach-back semesters contain courses from the first and second year of Sheridan’s Honours Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Engineering) degree program and are required to increase your prior diploma level of study. These courses vary by previous program of study and may also differ for students who graduated from a non-Sheridan program.
After completing the assigned reach-back courses, you’ll continue into Year 3 (Semester 5) of our Electrical Engineering degree. In order to earn your degree, you’ll need to complete all courses in the remaining two years of the program and also meet all liberal arts breadth course requirements that exist at the bachelor degree level.
Depending on your transcript, additional courses may be assigned. If you do not pass all courses in the reach-back semesters, the Faculty will determine your appropriate level of entry into the degree program.

Sheridan’s B.Eng. in Electrical Engineering offers the following advantages:
The Co-op Office will help you find and secure a position. They do this through:
In addition to the above, you are required to conduct your own independent job search. This includes researching companies of interest, attending networking events, making phone calls or sending emails and promoting yourself. Although Sheridan’s Co-op Office has a long, well-established history of success, securing a position is not guaranteed and will, like any course, require your commitment of time and effort in order to achieve a successful outcome.
You and all other students must complete the mandatory four-month internship to graduate. To be eligible, you must complete all of the courses from the first two years of the program and be in good academic standing. The engineering co-op work term after Year 3 is optional and students who are interested must apply.
Sheridan may put in place a maximum number of “seats” in the co-op program which would make entry into co-op a competitive process and take your GPA into consideration. As this is a new degree program, the co-op application process is still being developed and more information will be available in 2020.
If you have a recognized three-year advanced diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or related programs from a recognized Ontario community college, we are currently considering pathway options that will require you to complete a number of reach-back courses from the Bachelor of Engineering degree program before joining either the second or third year. There will also be a minimum GPA requirement. You and all other students will be assessed on a case-by-case basis, depending on your academic background.
Pathways will be designed to ensure all students graduating from the program meet the requirements of the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board. Students applying for a pathway option will not be considered until September 2021, at the earliest. At this time, you may consider starting in Semester 1 for fall 2020.
Transfer students will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The equivalency of incoming courses will be assessed based on the Sheridan credit transfer policy and requirements of the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board.
Yes, Sheridan's electrical engineering degree is the first Ontario college program of its kind to receive accreditation from the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB). Accreditation by the CEAB ensures that graduates have the academic qualifications necessary for licensure as professional engineers (P.Eng.) in Canada.
Sheridan's Honours Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Engineering) degree has been granted an accreditation by the CEAB for a one-year period starting June 30, 2024.
In general, a Bachelor of Engineering degree is designed to meet the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board requirements, and when the program is accredited (as Sheridan's program is), graduating students will have satisfied the academic requirements to apply for licensure as a professional engineer in Canada. On the other hand, a Bachelor of Technology degree program may not be designed to meet the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board requirements.

Sheridan's Honours Bachelor of Interior Design curriculum and its delivery are designed to address current social issues pertinent to the design industry. This enables students to broaden their understanding of their place within the world.
Fundamental to the vision of the program is the balance of creative and conceptual thinking with the technical and business aspects of the profession. Courses follow a logical sequence with the degree of difficulty building vertically from first year to fourth year.
The various streams provide a range of design problems building in size and scope, from simple to complex in various design sectors. The curriculum builds on fundamental introductions that ensures a strong foundation for students to apply additional more complex learning and skills developed later in the program.
Studio projects are designed to mimic professional practice and require applied theory, creativity and strong technical knowledge. Curriculum is also connected horizontally across each semester to help support the learning in courses happening simultaneously. This demonstrates the inter-connected knowledge and skills required to practice in the industry.
The program provides many opportunities that expose students to practicing professionals and professional practice. Industry leaders and representatives from professional associations like ARIDO and IDC are invited into the classroom as jurors and guest speakers throughout the four years. The internship also provides professional design work experience for students before they enter their final year of study.
The curriculum is student-centric and designed to equip students with the skills that are required for entry-level design positions and advanced study. Manual skills such as drafting, drawing and model making are developed alongside digital skills using current software. Students are also well-versed in the applicable building codes and regulations required to practice in Ontario. Students are exposed to valuable research skills and encouraged to continue their learning past graduation.
