Jessica is a professor of Criminology with a PhD in Sociology and Leagal Studies from the University of Waterloo. Jessica's doctoral work explored the complex interconnections between gendered and racialized responses to youthful offending and judicial decision making. She has expanded her work to examine the intersections of inequality on judicial decision making and experiences within both the adult and youth justice systems.

Research Interests
- The operation of the youth justice system, youth justice legislation, youth corrections, and marginalized persons experiences with the police, courts and corrections.
- My current research and community work supports First Nations, Métis and Inuit youth and women and their experiences within justice system, youth at risk and homeless parents and working to support transformative educational opportunities for youth at the Roy McMurtry Youth Centre and women through Elizabeth Fry: Hope and Help for Women.
