Ruth has worked for more than 30 years as a community worker, counsellor, educator and organizer in a number of community agencies. She has been teaching at Sheridan for two years in the areas of social work, community development and outreach and the child and youth worker program.   She has developed curricula and is the lead course coordinator for courses such as Living and Working in a Diverse Society, Program Planning and Evaluation and Power and Advocacy.  She has also taught a number of other social science courses.  She has been an active member of the Degree Committee at Sheridan.  In September, she will become the new Program Coordinator for the Community Worker Outreach and Development Program. In her last job at Parkdale Community Legal Services she was involved in monitoring, documenting and organizing against the impact of legislation such as the Ontario Works Act and the Safe Streets Act.  She was actively involved in educating and organizing around issues of violence against women, policing and immigrant and refugee issues.  Lately, She has been working with MUJER, a Latin American women’s group working with women in the community.  She has developed curricula, research and obtained funding for the organization. She is also the co-president of MUJER’S Board of Directors. She is finishing her doctoral studies in Sociology and Equity Studies at OISE, University of Toronto. She has published research related to her fieldwork in number of journals.
