Unlocking potential: Celebrating your impact in 2024
Throughout 2024, our donors touched the lives of students across all of Sheridan’s campuses – unlocking opportunities that allow learners to reach their limitless potential. We’re celebrating by looking back at some of the opportunities our generous supporters helped us create.
Students in the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology can reach their dreams thanks to donors who are supporting scholarships and bursaries along with mentorship opportunities that help students connect with others in their fields while refining their skills.
More than 14,700 students received support from scholarships, bursaries, and awards – financial support that unlocked their full potential and created a ripple effect of success that will benefit our community for generations to come.
"I was a high school dropout, and entering an engineering program sometimes felt like a bad decision. I had practically no experience …. most of the time, I felt my classmates had an upper hand. It's an incredible honour to be recognized with this award for my years of dedication and hard work (to strive) toward academic excellence."
– Marcus, recipient of the Stan Thurger Award for Computer Engineering.
More than 2,700 students will be able to take part in the Together at the Table program in 2025, thanks to the generosity of our donors who helped us raise $13,553 on Giving Tuesday.
Thirty-three students received the CIBC Bursary for Students with Disabilities, providing them access to resources that will help remove financial barriers to achieving their goals.
“Receiving this bursary relieved my stress and allowed me to dedicate myself fully to my education. Without it, I wouldn’t have made it through the semester, and I’m eternally grateful.”
– CIBC Bursary for Students with Disabilities recipient.
Over 140 work study positions were created for international students thanks to a gift from Scotiabank, allowing more students to take advantage of on-campus opportunities that remove barriers to career entry and help them maintain financial security.
94% of students who took part said they felt better prepared to embark on their career after completing a work study position.
Throughout the year, our donors helped unlock opportunities for students, including funding 38 awards that are available to Indigenous students.
“It's such a huge relief that I can contribute to the family, and my husband isn’t so stressed out trying to support all of us. I want to say a big thank you (to Rotary)! They don’t even know how much they impact people’s lives.”
– Jenn Flint, Veterinary Technician student and recipient of the Rotary Club of Oakville Technology Bursary for Indigenous Students.
We’re grateful to each and every donor who made a difference for our students this year. Together, we will continue to unlock the transformational power of education.
