David Barlow was an executive producer and writer on the second season of the CBC/White Pine Pictures TV series Cracked. He was also a co-executive producer/writer on King, nominated for a CSA as Best Dramatic Series, and a producer/writer on The Border, twice nominated for a Gemini as Best Dramatic Series. He has co-created two television series - Nothing Good Too for a Cowboy (with Charles Lazer) and Seeing Things (with Louis del Grande). Seeing Things received two Gemini Awards for Best Comedy Series. Other series credits as a story editor or writer include Durham County, Blue Murder, Cold Squad, E.N.G., and North of 60. Long-form producing credits include a drama about Canadian peacekeepers in Croatia, a comedy about the creators of the Trivial Pursuit board game, and a documentary about minor league baseball. He has a Gemini Award for Best Writing in a Dramatic Series and programs he has produced or written have received over 40 awards and nominations.

In addition, he is a recipient of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television - Margaret Collier Award - for his body of work as a screenwriter and his contribution to the Canadian television industry - and The Writers Guild of Canada's Writer's Block Award for his service to screenwriters.

Barlow is a frequent guest lecturer and panelist at film schools and industry conferences and has conducted professional screenwriting workshops across Canada, as well as in Dublin and Singapore.
