Sheridan values diversity and strives to create an equitable and inclusive place to study and work. We can achieve this by:

  • Sharing responsibility for respecting others’ rights and dignity, and working to remove barriers
  • Committing to ongoing awareness and education about equity issues
  • Ensuring that Sheridan policies and practices meet or exceed legislative requirements

What CEI does

Consultations

  • Provide advice on effective strategies to identify, address and prevent discrimination and harassment  
  • Address concerns relating to sexual violence and gender-based violence
  • Advise on making your events, practices, and policies more equitable, accessible and inclusive
  • Provide guidance on inclusive language for documents and publications

Education

  • Partner with student and employee groups to develop educational events on topics related to human rights, equity and inclusion
  • Develop customized workshops and presentations for classes, student clubs or work teams
  • Design awareness campaigns on equity issues

Dispute Resolution

  • Advise on conflicts related to discrimination, harassment and sexual violence for prevention, de-escalation and resolution
  • Facilitate alternative dispute resolution
  • Conduct investigations into complaints of discrimination, harassment and sexual violence
  • Complaints including anonymous and third-party complaints may be submitted per Sheridan’s Discrimination and Harassment Policy and Sexual Violence Policy

CEI will review and consider information shared by anonymous and third-parties. It should be noted that Sheridan may be unable to investigate or otherwise act on information shared by anonymous or third-party sources where there is a lack of information, or out of respect for the individual impacted by the alleged incident who has decided not to come forward. All information will be collected, reviewed and used to foster equity and inclusion for all Sheridan community members.
