Sheridan is excited to once again offer a range of summer camps aimed at providing youths in its campus communities the opportunity to learn from the expertise and mentorship of Sheridan faculty, instructors and students.

The camps highlight some of Sheridan’s hallmark programs, such as the Honours Bachelor of Music Theatre Performance, as well as science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) focused camps led by the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology. The camps reflect the College’s commitment to inspiring the next generation through creativity, innovation and hands-on learning.

Sheridan's youth theatre camp is back this summer at the Trafalgar Road Campus. Inspired by a desire to engage with the community, these camps are led by highly skilled music theatre students and take place in Sheridan’s industry standard dance halls. Honours Bachelor of Music Theatre Performance faculty member Chantal Forde is supporting with the writing, development and coordination of the programming.

Theatre Camp at Sheridan

“Theatre camp helps strengthen, first and foremost, self-confidence; self-confidence in creativity, in play and in one’s own voice,” said Ned Loach, academic portfolio administrator in the Faculty of Animation, Arts & Design. “We know that, as adults, public speaking can be challenging, which is what makes theatre camp so valuable at this age. Campers will have the chance to finish their week of camp with a performance for family and friends." Campers at theatre camp dance as they move together in a circle.

Throughout the week, campers build confidence, creativity and friendships. Each week culminates in a performance for friends and family, where campers can showcase their acting, dancing, singing and other creative talents.

Skills Ontario summer camps

Skills Ontario summer camps are week-long day programs at Davis Campus in Brampton for youths entering Grades 7-8. Through hands-on activities relevant to the skilled trades and by completing projects using industry-grade equipment, campers will develop communication, problem-solving and teamwork skills. Campers will take part in workshops led by Skills Ontario counselors and industry and college professionals who introduce them to a variety of topics in the industrial, construction, welding, plumbing and precision machining sectors. They’ll explore careers in skilled trades through interactive games, industry guests and pathway information. The camps are funded by Access Programs in Ontario and Pathways to education (OPAIP) and the City of Brampton, and provide space for local youths to explore opportunities in the skilled trades and technologies, while at the same time building their skills for the workforce and considering what career path is right for them.

A summer of STEM-focused camps

Also returning this summer are free STEM-focused camps, open to youths in Peel and Halton who want to explore opportunities in the skilled trades and technologies. Sheridan experts and industry guests will give campers hands-on experience with the latest technologies.

“We look forward to inviting young people in our community to our Davis campus to participate in fun and educational summer camps,” said Dr. Elizabeth Fabbroni, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology. “Our expert faculty and instructors, state-of-the-art facilities and engaging programming will help these youths explore careers in STEM fields they may not have considered or know about. These camps may spark innovative thinking and inspire campers to pursue studies in STEM fields, and become the next generation of industry professionals.”

July's TechTrek Camps are free, hands-on technology and engineering day camps designed to spark creativity, problem-solving and collaboration in youths entering Grades 8–10. The camp will be offered for two separate weeks, featuring identical programming each week to provide flexible scheduling options for families. Campers will explore real-world engineering through dynamic activities: experimenting with electricity, programming robotics and applying physics concepts like force, friction, mass and acceleration.

A group of students gather around a table and work on a project. Each day is filled with project-based learning, teamwork and guided use of tools to ensure a fun, safe and engaging environment. The camps are supported and funded in part by Actua. Actua is a leading Canadian science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) youth outreach organization. Each year, the Actua network engages over 500,000 youth in 600 communities across Canada in transformative STEM learning experiences that build critical skills and confidence. Additionally, the camps are proudly supported by RBC. Together, we are empowering youth with the skills, confidence and curiosity to lead in STEM fields and beyond.

Registration for STEM camps is now closed.

Summer camps, and other programs showcasing the transformative power of postsecondary education, are an integral part of Sheridan’s mission statement. In partnership with youth-serving organizations across Halton and Peel, programs such as Skills Ontario Summer Camps under the Youth Amplified banner seek to intentionally forge pathways to postsecondary for equity-deserving groups.
