Youth Amplified Report highlights Sheridan’s commitment to removing barriers to postsecondary education

Over 2,100 youth across Peel and Halton regions participated in Sheridan’s Youth Amplified programming in 2023, furthering the institution’s commitment to unlock the transformative power of education for everyone. 

Sheridan’s 2023 Youth Amplified report, released during National Youth Week, highlights the meaningful action the college took last year to contribute to the needs of its local communities across Peel and Halton regions. 

Youth Amplified encompasses a suite of programs implemented in collaboration with community partners rooted in Sheridan’s mission to break barriers and forge pathways to postsecondary education for equity-deserving groups. 

“We’re proud that, through Youth Amplified, we’re able to give youth in our campus communities exposure to educational and career options, giving them an early glimpse into the power of postsecondary education,” said Ryan Teeter, Manager, Domestic Student Recruitment. “We’re excited at the prospect of co-creating more programming with the communities we’re proud to serve in 2024 and beyond.” 

Youth Amplified grew significantly in 2023 with enhanced programs and partnerships. Over 2,100 youth were reached through programming, events and initiatives – a quadruple increase from the prior year. Youth Amplified boasted 12 partnerships with organizations across Peel and Halton regions, with nearly 40 Sheridan staff and students engaged as instructors, mentors and guest speakers. 

Sheridan significantly boosted its youth outreach and engagement activities to build interest in and expose youth to science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) programs and future careers. For example, in fall of 2023, Sheridan partnered with Skills Ontario to host a Women in Tech and Trades Event, inviting 120 young women in grades 7 and 8 to take place in hands-on workshops and network with women in the skilled trades. And throughout the year, Sheridan’s Student STEAM Outreach instructors engaged over 1,100 youth in free, hands-on STEAM workshops at community partner locations across Peel and Halton regions. 

Bigs on Campus, Camp ArtHouse Halton, and the Youth in Policing Initiative (YIPI) were just a few of the other programming initiatives Sheridan offered in collaboration with its community partners over the years.
