Annual rankings from Research Infosource places Sheridan in top 10 in five categories
Research Infosource Inc. released its annual list of Canada’s Top 50 Research Colleges earlier today placing Sheridan in the top 10 in five of its categories. Most notably, in one year Sheridan rose nine places to number five for industry research income.
Sheridan also improved four spots since last year’s rankings to number 10 for industry research income as a proportion of its total research income, top three for research partnerships and completed research projects, and number four for number of student researchers.
“The significant improvement in industry research income and our noteworthy rankings in other categories reflect the strength in Sheridan’s research and innovation, and the continued growth in our collaborative partnerships,” says Dr. Janet Morrison, President and Vice Chancellor.
Over the last year, the diversity of Sheridan’s research areas has evidenced the College’s continued excellence in innovation and cutting-edge research. Projects of note include:
- COVID-19 research
- Sheridan was the recipient of three Applied Research Rapid Response to COVID-19 grants through the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. The awarded research projects included the development of a point-of-care self-assessment and monitoring system for COVID-19 through the reconfiguration of an existing mobile health system, NewPneu; a project that will design, test and disseminate creative interventions aimed at combating the online spread of misinformation about COVID-19; and a project to help support a community partner’s challenges in safely and efficiently providing the nutritional and health needs of older adults in the Halton Region during the pandemic.

- Advanced manufacturing meets vision-guided robotics
- Supported through an Ontario Centres of Excellence - Voucher for Innovation Productivity grant, Sheridan’s Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Design Technologies (CAMDT) collaborated with industry partner Rex Power Magnetics on process improvements for their transformer assembly, helping to design and fabricate specific tooling for this project.
- Intergenerational music therapy
- Dr. Kate Dupuis, Schlegel Innovation Leader in Arts and Aging with the Sheridan Centre for Elder Research, worked closely with the University of Waterloo and Schlegel Villages in Guelph, Ontario to explore and determine if there is a difference in the communication, interaction, and engagement among older adults who participate in the music therapy program with young children, as opposed to those who take part in the program without children.
“Our rankings are a testament to the research achievements of our faculty, staff and students, and to the strong partnerships they’ve forged with industry and community,” says Andrea England, Vice Provost, Research. “Sheridan will continue to expand our research activities and collaborations that further enhance the exceptional value we deliver to our partners.”
