Sheridan granted DLI status and renews uncompromised learning promise for Winter

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact postsecondary education and society at large, and as the winter approaches, Sheridan is preparing to welcome international students traveling to Canada and renew its promise for an uncompromised learning experience.

Earlier today, Immigration and Citizenship Canada added Sheridan College to its Designated Learning Institutions (DLI) list. This designation permits Sheridan to welcome international students who aren’t currently in Canada and who have been approved for a study permit.

“With our COVID-19 readiness plan in place, we’re confident in our preparations for ensuring a smooth and safe transition to our campus communities for our new international students,” says Deanna McQuarrie, Registrar at Sheridan. “We’re thrilled to welcome students from our international community to Canada, with our stringent health and safety protocols in place as well as the necessary supports to foster a sense of connection, engagement and belonging.”

Program delivery for the Winter semester will continue in a fully remote or hybrid (a blend of in-person and remote) model for Sheridan students. No matter their learning environment, students can expect a commitment to academic quality and for student success to remain a top priority. It’s a commitment formalized in a renewed ‘learning uncompromised’ promise – a repeat of the successful Fall Promise initiative for those enrolled in courses in January, 2021.

“The low uptake of our refund option is a testimony to the professionalism and expertise of our faculty and staff, who continue to respond to the pandemic with ingenuity and creativity,” says Dr. Janet Morrison, Sheridan’s President and Vice Chancellor. “Two semesters into the remote delivery of teaching, learning and support services, I am confident that new and returning students are continuing to have the high quality educational experiences people have come to expect from Sheridan.”

In addition to a full refund without academic penalty – available to students up to Feb. 12, 2021 – pillars of the promise include a high-quality learning experience, a commitment to health and safety for students required to be on campus, measures to make learning more affordable, adapting services and outside-of-the-classroom programming, and opportunities to experience campus life virtually, through online events and initiatives.
