Today, Memorial University of Newfoundland announced the appointment of Dr. Janet Morrison as its next President and Vice-Chancellor. He
r last day at Sheridan College will be August 8, 2025.
Dr. Morrison’s appointment is a testament to her ability to manage complexity, lead with courage and empathy, and her strong advocacy for the vital role postsecondary education plays in our communities, provinces and our country.
“The Board of Governors joins the Sheridan community in congratulating Dr. Morrison on her new appointment and wishing her every success. The legacy she leaves at Sheridan is profound and we celebrate, with great appreciation, her many accomplishments in bold and creative leadership that have enabled Sheridan to weather adversity and to thrive in an increasingly challenging environment,” said Mary E. Hofstetter C.M., Chair of Sheridan College’s Board of Governors.
Dr. Morrison was appointed as Sheridan College's eighth President and Vice Chancellor in June 2018 and has guided the college equally through dynamic growth and an unprecedented period of financial strain and change in the sector. Her work to ensure the financial sustainability and vibrancy of the college will stand as her legacy for decades to come.
“This community has made me the person I am today, and words cannot express the gratitude and pride I feel for what we have accomplished,” says Dr. Janet Morrison, President and Vice Chancellor, Sheridan College. “Postsecondary institutions have always been at the forefront of innovation and Sheridan exemplifies this — in the way we prepare students to be global citizens with resilience and courage; in the way we work with our campus communities as anchor institutions; and in the way we have been able to invent and reinvent ourselves to remain relevant. We have gone through immense transformation, but how we adapt, lead, and innovate today will define our future, including our reputation and capacity for economic and social impact.”
While a transition in Presidential leadership represents change, the expertise of Sheridan’s leadership team provides continuity and stability for the community and confidence in a shared path forward. Through it, Sheridan remains grounded in its mission and vision as it continues to deliver standard-setting education, lean into a culture of creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship, and maintain a strong commitment to the creative industries.
During Dr. Morrison’s transition period, the leadership team will continue Sheridan’s momentum aligned with its Strategic Plan and response to the sector-wide financial crisis. An interim President will be named by the Board of Governors to oversee the operations of the college, while the Board undertakes the recruitment process for the ninth President and Vice Chancellor.
