Today, Actua announced Sheridan College and its Youth Amplified initiative as its newest network member. Based in Brampton, Mississauga and Oakville, Ontario, Sheridan joins Actua’s network ofActua logo - youth stem innovation over 40 universities and colleges and is the 17th member located in Ontario.

“We are thrilled to welcome Sheridan as the newest member of Actua's ever-growing network.” said Jennifer Flanagan, CEO of Actua. “The goals of Sheridan's STEM programming through its Youth Amplified initiative strongly align with those of Actua’s. Together, we will work to achieve greater impact, supporting and empowering youth across Peel and Halton regions through accessible digital and STEM learning experiences."

Youth Amplified’s STEM-based work with Actua will focus on programming for grades 3-12. It will offer STEM programs (science, technology, engineering and maths), with the aim of ensuring all youth in their communities have equal access to forging a path to postsecondary studies in STEM.

Sheridan’s STEM programming through Youth Amplified and the Actua network begins this week with a series of hands-on, virtual summer camps for youth focused on sustainable development, chemistry, and mobile app development.

“STEM is a discipline area of strength at Sheridan through our Faculty of Applied Science and Technology and research centres,” says Lindsay Engel, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science & Technology. “Becoming a member of the Actua Network is a natural fit to further advance Sheridan’s goal of engaging underrepresented youth in meaningful STEM programming and helping them reach their full potential.”

As part of Actua’s growing network, Youth Amplified at Sheridan will contribute to a national strategy for equipping Canadian youth with skills and experience in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Actua network members receive access to training, resources, funding and day-to-day support as they grow their programs.
