Sheridan alumni take home Canadian Screen Awards
Sheridan alumni were celebrated last week, when 12 graduates won Canadian Screen Awards (CSAs). The CSAs celebrate Canadian productions and talent in front of the camera and behind-the-scenes in film, television and digital media. This year’s winners are:
- Charles E. Bastien (Animation ’83) for Best Direction, Animation for his work on PAW Patrol, Mission Paw: Quest for the Crown.
- Matt Dorman (Media Arts ’08) won Best Sports Feature Segment for his work on Sound of Thunder.
- J.R. Fountain (Media Arts ’01), Dashen Naidoo (Media Arts ’06) and Tyler Whitham (Media Arts ’06), for Achievement in Sound Editing for The Breadwinner.
- Jeff Lemire (Illustration ’05) won the Donald Brittain Award for Best Social/Political Doc Program for The Secret Path.
- In the category of Best Visual Effects, Kieran McKay (Computer Animation ’09) won for Vikings.
- Best Sound, Animation goes to Tim Muirhead (Media Arts ’98), Kyle Peters (Media Arts ’08), Ryan Ongaro (Media Arts ’12) and Patton Rodrigues (Media Arts ’12) for PAW Patrol, Mission Paw: Quest for the Crown.
- Toni Stevens (Media Arts ’85), Best Pre-School Program or Series for PAW Patrol.
“Congratulations to our alumni who won CSAs this year,” says Ronni Rosenberg, Dean of Sheridan’s Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design. “Sheridan alumni received nearly 40 nominations for CSAs. That is a true celebration of their incredible work, and we are very proud the of the contribution our grads are making to Canadian media.”
The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television presented the CSAs last week during a series of events that culminated in a gala held on March 11 in Toronto. Sheridan alumni were nominated for their work in television, film and digital media.
