Generator at Sheridan celebrates faculty, staff and community collaborations at 2024 Annual Showcase
Various industry and community partners joined more than 130 Sheridan faculty and staff last week at Hazel McCallion Campus for the Generator at Sheridan Annual Showcase, which celebrates the breadth of research, innovation and entrepreneurship (RIE) at the college.
Below, in photos, is a brief recap of the event.
This year’s program was emceed by Andrea England, Sheridan’s Vice Provost, Research (pictured above, left) and featured remarks by Mary Vaughan, Sheridan’s Provost and Vice President, Academic (above, right). In her inspired message, Vaughan spoke of RIE as an institutional anchor at Sheridan and how it continues to build Sheridan’s strength as a driver of social, economic and community development.
Other highlights of the program included:
A thought-provoking panel discussion, “Accelerating Impact – Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Driving Social Innovation”, that examined how RIE activities at Sheridan are shaping a better future.
Collaboration Corner, a new Showcase feature that provided dedicated space for presenters and attendees to explore opportunities to connect and learn more about RIE at Sheridan.
Insightful Lightning Talks presentations that sparked curiosity and conversation about such topics as using artificial intelligence (AI) to predict fracture risk for osteoporosis; cultivating individual and collective wellness in teaching and learning; experimenting with small open-source AI models for practical use; leveraging drones for rescue operations; redefining campus accessibility through innovative study abroad models; nurturing innovation and entrepreneurship in students; and testing prostheses through the use of a robotic gait simulator.
A vibrant Marketplace featuring 21 illuminating research posters and interactive booths that provided an opportunity for attendees to connect face-to-face with presenters and witness their RIE projects brought to life.
