For three days in October, Sheridan’s Alumni Relations department deployed to the College’s three campuses with a simple goal in mind: to spread kindness.

Appropriately named “The Kind Mail Campaign,” the program was timed to coincide with the crunch of deadlines around mid-terms and delivered over 130 uplifting and supportive messages to students from alumni, who know best what they are going through.

Tables were set up in the Sheridan Student Union centres, where Alumni Relations staff invited students to receive a postcard that delivered alumni’s messages of encouragement, support, study tips, and even advice on how to maintain good mental health.

“Exams are always tough but don’t forget to enjoy college life while it lasts,” read one postcard from Damien Samad (Mechanical Engineering Technology, ’11), who is now a senior safety officer with Metrolinx. “Study regularly and ask questions. Connect with professors to solve your doubts. Revise your assignments and any other material. You have got this.”

“You've already done most of the work. This seems like the hard part, but honestly, you’re past that,” wrote Quinn Glasbergen (Broadcast-Journalism, ’13), who is a post-production supervisor at Banger Films. “Do what's already been working and give yourself space to relax when you can.”

Many students took the time to browse through all the Kind Mail notes, searching for alumni from their own Faculty or program. When they found a match, they often looked up the grad on LinkedIn to connect and start a conversation, turning Kind Mail into an unexpected bridge for mentorship and networking.

Some reacted to the messages almost like opening a fortune cookie — delighted by how relevant and timely the words felt. One message about taking breaks and resting even made a pair of friends laugh over their shared habit of pulling all-nighters.

“Watching our Sheridan alumni community show up for students in such a thoughtful and personal way has been incredibly meaningful," said Allisha Seguire, Manager, Alumni Relations. “These messages weren’t just kind words on a postcard — they were reminders that once you’re part of this community, you’re never alone. Seeing grads from all programs and all years take the time to encourage the next generation makes me so proud to be Forever Blue.”
