Sheridan's 16-week Try the Trades program provides FREE hands-on training and assistance with paid on-the-job experience to help prepare you for a career in the trades.
What you will learn in this program:
- Precision machining and tooling
- Industrial mechanic millwright fundamentals
- Welding and fabricating
You’ll also earn the following certifications:
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
- First Aid
- Joint Health and Safety Committee
- Working at Heights
This FREE program includes:
8 weeks of pre-apprenticeship in-class training.
Assistance with job search for 8 weeks at a paid placement in an industrial setting. Placements are not guaranteed.
Am I eligible for this program?
In order to be eligible for this pre-apprenticeship program, applicants need to be Canadian Citizens, Landed Permanent Residents, or Protected Persons, and possess their high school diploma, GED or equivalent. Entrance testing is not required.
This program is not currently offered.

Sheridan’s Try the Trades Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program is sponsored by Government of Ontario, Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD). This program is part of Employment Ontario, the province's integrated training and employment network, and is tuition-free. All textbooks, safety training and tool kit are included — free of charge. Supports are also available to participants.
