Sheridan's 24-week program provides FREE hands-on training and assistance with paid on-the-job experience. This program is designed as a transition step towards an apprenticeship in the trades.
What is a general machinist?
General machinists cut, shape and finish metal to make precision-machined parts and components used in all areas of manufacturing. They read and interpret complex engineering drawings and work-process documentation, set up and operate both conventional and numerically controlled metal-cutting machines and equipment (including saws, drills, grinders, lathes and mills), and perform work-in-process measuring or checking. Sheridan’s General Machinist Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program provides you with hands-on training and assistance with on-the-job experience that will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to secure an apprenticeship position as a machinist.

This FREE program includes:
8 weeks of pre-apprenticeship in-class training with exposure to the trades of Tool & Die Maker and Tool Making
8 weeks of Level 1 Apprenticeship in-class training
Assistance with job search for 8 weeks at a paid placement in an industrial setting. Placements are not guaranteed.
Am I eligible for this program?
In order to be eligible for this pre-apprenticeship program, applicants need to be Canadian Citizens, Landed Permanent Residents, or Protected Persons, and possess their high school diploma, GED or equivalent.

This program is part of Employment Ontario, the province's integrated training and employment network, and is tuition-free. All textbooks, safety training and tool kit are included — free of charge. Supports are also available to participants.
